I will honor Ava with every step. I will fight for futures she deserved.

Connor’s Run Eve: Laying Out the Kit, Holding the Emotions

Tomorrow’s the day. My kit is laid out, my alarm is set, and I’ll be down at the start line by 7am, ready for the 8am kickoff. But this isn’t just a run, it’s a walk through memory, grief, and love.

I’ll be walking alongside George’s family tomorrow. It’s been exactly 12 months since his funeral. I remember how raw that milestone felt after Ava’s funeral, how surreal it was to mark a year without her. So I’m in absolute awe of Darren, Sarah, and Arabella for turning up, for lacing up their shoes, for choosing to run through the pain with purpose.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of my sponsors, I’ve made it into the top five fundraisers for this year’s run. Over $20,000 raised. That number isn’t just money, it’s momentum. It’s hope. It’s Ava’s legacy in motion. And tomorrow, I’ll wear that purple shirt, cape, and crown not just for her, but for every child whose story deserves to be remembered.

I feel anxious. I feel overwhelmed . I feel emotional. I feel sad. But more than anything, I feel Ava with me. In every step. In every hug. In every shared glance with another parent who knows this ache.

Tomorrow, we run. We walk. We remember. We raise. We love. And we won’t forget that our children mattered. Their lives mattered. Ava still matters.

$13,000 Raised… and Climbing Toward $20,000

This month has been heavy. I’ve crossed the $13,000 mark today for Connor’s Run, and with donation matching, we’re inching closer to the $20,000 target. That number means more than generosity, it means people are listening. It means Ava’s story is still being heard.

But behind the fundraising milestones is a grief that doesn’t ease with time. It was this time three years ago that we heard the words no parent should ever hear: palliative care. Ava’s decline was swift and cruel. Over six weeks, I watched my brilliant, brave girl fade before my eyes. I became her nurse, her comforter, and her helpless protector. I could do nothing to save her.

I remember injecting morphine into her thighs, praying to every god or spirit I could name not to take my only baby. I remember her voice slurring, her skin greying, her eyes losing their light. I remember reading The Invisible String to her, desperate to remind her that no matter where we were in this universe, our hearts would always be connected.

We lost so much in those six weeks. I lost everything. And the trauma of that loss, it never leaves. It lives in me.

Life is very hard. Because all I want is Ava. To hear her laugh. To hold her hand. To hear her say “Mum” again and cuddle me.

But I know I have to keep going. I don't have a choice and Ava deserves to be remembered in her full truth, not just the beautiful parts, but the brutal ones too. I want the world to remember all of Ava. I want everyone to understand what brain cancer does. What it destroys. And I want you to keep fighting for a cure with me.

Every step I run this Sunday will be for Ava. But also for every person who’s stood beside me - not just in this campaign, but in the many before it. And the many that will follow. Because this is all I can do now. I throw Ava’s story at every fundraising effort I can, hoping it lands somewhere that matters. Hoping it helps shift the world just a little.

Brain cancer is the biggest killer of children in Australia. And Ava’s legacy, her fight, her brilliance, her bravery, deserves to be part of changing that. It’s the only legacy I can build for her. One step, one story, one campaign at a time.

✨ Two Weeks to Go – Thank You for Walking Beside Me ✨

I can’t believe Connor’s Run is just two weeks away. Every donation, message, and act of kindness has lifted me in ways I can’t fully express. Thank you for being part of this with me. Your support is the reason I keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I’ve been pouring love into every detail and trying to stay occupied: bedazzling my bib and glasses, making friendship bracelets for George’s beautiful friends and family, and getting my rainbow tutu and leg warmers ready to honour Ava. She would’ve been right beside me, giggling over beads and excited about the plane ride, packing her small pink suitcase and staying in an apartment. Her absence is a weight I barely carry every day.

This year, I’ll be meeting Sarah, George’s mum, for the first time face to face. I know there will be tears. We’ll grieve together for the kids who should be running alongside us, laughing and living like other kids do. Instead, they’ll be looking down on us. I wonder if they wish they could be here, or if they’re somewhere free and peaceful. I hope they can see how hard we’re still fighting for a cure, just as fiercely as when they were here and hope was still alive.

Some days, the pain makes it really hard to do this. But then I think of all of you, your generosity, your belief in this cause and in me. Because of you I find the strength to keep going. Knowing you’re behind me gives me courage when I feel like giving up.

Thank you for walking with me. For Ava. For George. For every child who deserves a future.

With love and gratitude, Amanda 💛🌈

This Morning, I Ran for Ava

This morning, I ran my fastest ever 5K at Parkrun. It wasn’t easy. Every step burned, every breath pushed against the pain. But I kept going—because the memory of Ava carried me.

Ava, with her courage and grace, faced unimaginable pain over four long years: brain surgeries, chemo, radiation. And through it all, she kept smiling. She kept fighting. So how could I not push through my own moment of struggle when she taught me what true endurance looked like?

Today’s run wasn’t just a personal best—it was a promise. A promise that I will not stop running. That I will not stop raising money. That losing Ava will never be for nothing. Every dollar raised for brain cancer research is a step forward—a step toward hope, a step toward better treatment, a step toward a cure. It’s my purpose now.

In September, I’ll be running the 9.6K Connors Run, and I need your support. Every donation—no matter the size—counts. It honours Ava’s memory and gives other kids a fighting chance. Please consider donating. Let’s turn heartbreak into hope, and let Ava’s story fuel something powerful.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I'm fundraising for kids with brain cancer!

This September, I’ll run 9km in Connor’s Run—one foot in grief, the other in hope. I’m running for my daughter Ava, who died at just six years old from brain cancer. And I’m also running for George—another bright, brave soul lost too soon to the same disease. They were part of the same drug trial. They fought together. Now, I run for them both.

Brain cancer is the number one disease killer of young people. But we’re standing at the edge of a breakthrough—and your support can help push us over it. Every donation helps fund life-changing research, so that one day, no parent will have to say goodbye too soon.

I run for those still in the fight. I run for those who didn’t have time to wait. I run because Ava and George couldn’t—and because I believe we can change everything.

Please, if you can, donate to my page. Let’s make brains matter. Let’s change the odds—together.

Thank you to my Sponsors
