For Zarli Girl

Last year was our first time participating in Connor's Run, although the year before I remember hearing about it and following along through social media from the hospital room, as some of the nurses and doctors that had become like family to us, were running to raise funds for brain cancer. The very reason I was in hospital, caring for my baby girl, in the first place. This year, we will be participating again (well Jake and Mason will be and our newest little one and I will participate how we can!) and also hope to raise some funds for the much needed research into brain cancer treatments, which at the moment are limited and come with a lot of complications and risks.

Our Zarli girl had beat the odds and the tumour had responded so well to the chemotherapy that our team told us there was “no sign of disease”. Words that every cancer parent longs to hear. She was on the home stretch, looking like she was going to somehow make a full recovery against all the odds and we would get to bring her home. Heartbreakingly though, she lost her life to an unexpected, very rare, complication from the chemotherapy. This is sadly the story for so many kids with brain cancer, the treatment is so harsh and damaging to their bodies, that our kids are losing their lives to complications from the treatment. Yet there is no other option. This is why the research RCD is doing and supporting is so important!

We are so thankful for the extra time we got with our daughter because of the treatment she received, but know there has to be a better way for the future.

We would love for you to join us in anyway you can as we do our little bit to change the story for other families.

We will be doing Connor’s Run this year to support kids fighting brain cancer - the #1 disease killer of young people, and to fund the science that will one day end paediatric brain cancer.

Brain cancer research is on the tipping point. We can all be part of making important breakthroughs happen. Our participation is something that we can do to support the science and in the meantime the patients. For all the people out there currently battling brain tumours and for those who couldn’t wait for research to progress any longer.

We're doing this because we know we can find a way to make brain cancer go the way of the dinosaurs. Make a donation to our page and be part of making brains matter, together we can change the odds for young people.
