THE JED STARS
Jed was our gorgeous, sporty, fun loving, happy 11 year old, but on November 18th 2022 our lives changed forever when we heard the horrible words, "we're sorry but your son has a brain tumour". He had his whole life ahead of him and was stripped of it in the blink of an eye.
Jed was dropped off at school on that morning with $2 for a bacon n egg muffin in his pocket and his footy under his arm. He was so excited to be attending a slumber party at a mates place straight after school. 2 hours later we received a call from the school sick bay. Jed was unwell and needed to be picked up immediately. His arm wouldn’t stop pulsating and he was completely out of it. By the time we got him into the car, the very quick decision was made to rush him to Noosa Emergency. It only took 7 mins to drive there and by the time he arrived, he suffered a major seizure and was placed on a ventilator into an induced coma. It was terrifying as a parent to watch. He was our gorgeous, happy, excited, sporty 11 year old just hours earlier. We could not believe what was un-folding before our eyes. Jed was air lifted to Brisbane Children’s hospital and we were told he had a bleeding brain tumour all in a matter of hours. We then had to explain to our beautiful son that he had brain cancer, which is no conversation a parent should ever have to have with their child. Our lives have never been and never will be the same from that point. Jed endured 43 sessions of radiation, countless chemo rounds, 2 brain surgeries and sadly ended up in a wheel chair before loosing his brave battle to High Grade Glioma on 23rd April 2024, just a short 17months after diagnosis. It is our hope that no family or child will ever have to endure what we have.
SO we are putting on the runners for Connor’s Run to support the brave and awesome kids fighting brain cancer - the #1 disease killer of young people, and to fund the science that will one day end paediatric brain cancer.
We love you and miss you every day Jeddy, this one is for you mate!
